A successful three-day winter school on multimodal fNIRS research was recently held at UNAM’s Tafira Baja Campus, hosted at the Gran Canaria Cognitive Research Center. The event was expertly led by the NIRx team, including Dr. Adam Takacs, Dr. Dalila Burin, Marina Sazhumyan and Armin Heinecke.
The program provided a comprehensive deep dive into fNIRS fundamentals and its integration with other modalities such as EEG, eye tracking, and virtual reality (VR). Participants benefited from specialized sessions on systemic physiology and GLM design, as well as a guest lecture by invited speaker Nicolás J. Gallego-Molina on EEG-fNIRS integration for robust CFC estimation. Through a combination of expert lectures and intensive hands-on sessions, attendees gained practical experience in montage design and data acquisition.
The event attracted a diverse group of students, teachers, and researchers, fostering a collaborative environment for neuroimaging excellence. Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with participants praising the balance of theoretical insights and practical application. This winter school has successfully advanced the understanding of multimodal neuroimaging and its potential to drive innovation in cognitive and social neuroscience.
